The New Zealand Law Students' Association (NZLSA) is the parent body of the six on-campus Law Student Societies in New Zealand and acts as the national body representing the interests of all law students across Aotearoa. NZLSA coordinates the activities of these six societies, nominates two representatives to sit on the Council of Legal Education, provides education and well-being resources to Aotearoa’s law student community, facilitates the four annual legal competitions held on each campus, and holds our annual conference, providing LSS competition winners with the opportunity to compete for the national titles in mooting, witness examination, client interviewing and negotiation.

MEET THE 2026 EXECUTIVE

Jamie Yee
PRESIDENT
Kia Ora I’m Jamie and I’m really excited to be the NZLSA President for 2026 after being the VUWLSS VPA last year. I’m super excited to work more with our mates at the Australian Law Students Association to create meaningful change for Law Students across both sides of the Tasman.

Maggie Gibson
ADMINISTRATIVE VICE PRESIDENT
Kia ora, I’m Maggie, your 2026 AVP! I got into law because I enjoy problem-solving, and my 17-year-old self somehow knew I’d love spending 12 hours a day in the library. After two years on LAWSOC, I’ve loved getting involved in student life and meeting new people. As Administrative Vice-President, I’m excited to support the team behind the scenes and keep things running smoothly (I do love a good Google Doc). Outside of law, I love travelling, skiing, and spending time with friends. I’m always keen to get involved in new experiences.
-

Jane Tingey
TREASURER
Hey all! I’m Jane, and I’m the treasurer for NZLSA for 2026! I’m really excited about this position to help make NZLSA stronger so it’s in the best position to help law students around the country. I have recently graduated from Canterbury University where I’ve been lucky enough to pair my law studies with some great clubs on campus, lots of outdoor adventures, and an exchange last year to Barcelona. I am excited for the people I will meet this year on the NZLSA exec, and the progress that we can make as a team.
-

Marnie Gielen
COMPETITION VICE PRESIDENT
During my time at the University of Waikato, I was actively involved in WULSA and served as Competitions Officer in my second year. This past year, I stepped back from committee involvement to focus on competing and had an incredible time negotiating throughout the year, which reinforced how valuable competitions are as a practical learning opportunity. I am very excited about the role of Competitions Vice-President. Competitions offer students hands-on, real-world experience, and I am passionate about helping make them accessible and welcoming.
-

Jasmine McTavish
EDUCATION VICE PRESIDENT
As a mother of two young children and a master’s student, I was drawn to law after seeing the injustices faced by many vulnerable populations in Aotearoa and wanting to make a difference. I work in family law and am passionate about both this mahi and policy. I am excited to create and analyse the National Well-being and Education Survey, as I believe this is an invaluable tool in supporting our tauira and educating the wider legal profession. As Education Vice President, I aim to strengthen connections between law schools and improve student support and learning outcomes.
-

Lauren Petch
MARKETING VICE PRESIDENT
Hello! I’m Lauren and i’m currently in my final year of Law at AUT, but I also hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Otago University which I completed in 2022. I am a first generation University student so I knew next-to-nothing about the legal field before I started studying law, but I gave it a try and absolutely loved it! I have served in multiple executive roles within law clubs at AUT, and am beyond excited to have a role on the NZLSA serving students all across New Zealand.

Will Dalzell
COUNCIL OF LEGAL EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE
Kia ora! My name is Will and I am one half of the CLE reps for the 2025-2028 term alongside Helena. I decided to study law largely because no other degrees quite sparked my interest, and I could not be happier with the outcome. In 2024 I had the privilege of being AULSS President, a role which made me excited to apply to be a CLE Rep when the opportunity arose. I hope that alongside Helena, I’ll be able to advocate strongly for student and young professional interests at CLE meetings and beyond, and to mentor successive NZLSA Councils to help deliver the most to law students across Aotearoa.
-

Helena Palmer
COUNCIL OF LEGAL EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE
I am so excited to be joining NZLSA as a CLE rep for the next three years. I ran for the role after such motivating and enjoyable experiences on and around NZLSA in the past. I’m looking forward to working with the 2026 team alongside Will and representing student and young professional interests on the Council. From 2026 I will be working for the Ministry of Justice and outside of law I love to bake, hit the netball court and get my creative side flowing.
-

Eleesha Silva
CONFERENCE CONVENOR
I’m Eleesha and I’m super excited to be the Conference Convener for 2026! I have loved getting involved in the law school community at Vic and am now pumped to be a part of uniting law students across the country! I’m really excited that we are bringing the Conference to Wellington for the first time in 12 years. I hope to highlight all the amazing things that Wellington has to offer and show what a cool and important city it is. Wellington really is at the heart of the law and I cannot wait to bring law students from across New Zealand here to enjoy it. It’s gonna be a great year and I cannot wait!

Vesper Lee
AULSS PRESIDENT
I first became interested in law in high school after discovering Instagram cartoons created by real life lawyers. It was so fresh and engaging to gain insight on the perspective of divorce lawyers - which sparked my early interest for family law. My involvement in the Korean Law Student Association over the past three years deepened this interest, allowing me to connect my passion for law with my Korean culture. I’m now honoured to serve as President of AULSS, where I’m committed to representing our students, and fostering an even more inclusive and connected community. Outside of law school, you’ll usually find me playing online games (don’t judge me!) or making coffee.
-

Imaaz Ansari
AUTLSS PRESIDENT
I’m a fourth-year law student at Auckland University of Technology and have the privilege of serving as the 2026 AUT Law Students’ Society President. I've been actively involved with AUTLSS throughout my degree, particularly through my role as one of the two Competitions Officer in 2025, where I worked with practitioners and law firms to deliver competitions for students. Outside of law school, I enjoy staying active and trying new things. I speak multiple languages and have a strong passion for sports, including kayaking, wrestling, and horse riding. I’m always keen for a challenge and enjoy pushing myself beyond my comfort zone.
-

Khushman Khakh
WULSA PRESIDENT
Hi there, I am Khushman and am thrilled to be the 2026 Waikato University Law Students’ Association (WULSA) President! I began my University chapter and law school journey back in 2023. Safe to say that I have absolutely been loving it! One of the main highlights in my law school journey so far has been the people. Since my first year, I have enjoyed being involved with the student body and law committees, serving on both WULSA and the Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA). Being elected by my peers as WULSA President is such a privilege and honour. I look forward to working with the WULSA committee and NZLSA to ensure WULSA has another successful year moving into 2026. In my spare time, you will find me making the most of the outdoors and spending time with friends and family.
-
Hannah Bautista
VUWLSS PRESIDENT
My name is Hannah (she/her) and I’m incredibly excited to be the VUWLSS President for 2026. I am going into my fifth year studying an LLB(Hons)/BCOM, majoring in Economics. I whakapapa to the Philippines and China, and grew up in Tāmaki Makaurau before moving to Wellington to take on university. This year, I’m especially looking forward to representing Victoria University law students nationally on NZLSA. At VUWLSS, our goal is to continue building on the legacy of past executives through delivering events which are accessible, high-quality and contribute to our law community.
-

Georgiana House
LAWSOC PRESIDENT
Kia ora! My name is Georgie and I'm excited to be on the NZLSA Council in my capacity as President of LAWSOC for 2026. I’m really looking forward to working alongside the incredible people on both the NZLSA Council and the LAWSOC Executive, and continuing to support law students by ensuring their voices are heard at every level. At LAWSOC, our mission is to create a well-rounded student experience and a community where there is truly something for everyone. Our 2026 team is dedicated to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and a strong sense of belonging. We aim to honour our legacy while responding to the evolving needs of our members, ensuring LAWSOC remains relevant, welcoming, and forward-thinking.
-

Jack Evans
SOULS PRESIDENT
Kia ora, I’m Jack and I am the SOULS president down in Dunedin for 2026. I’m super excited to represent Otago students on the NZLSA level. I’m aiming to further promote the accessibility of events and initiatives to students in Ōtepoti Dunedin. Please reach out to us on our socials or at our email address - we love feedback!
